What are the benefits of powder coating furniture?
Powder coating may seem like an unfamiliar term to most people, but you likely own an item that has been surfaced using this process. Invented over seventy years ago, powder coating has been used in the manufacturing industry for decades. These days, powder coating is used to finish a wide range of products from microwaves to automotive parts. This extensive use has occurred due to the many advantages powder coating provides.
Unlike solvent-based paint, a powder coat is applied using electrostatic energy. The item receiving the coat is connected to a grounding wire and the powder itself is given a negative charge within the applicator gun. The powder is forced out of the gun by air pressure and it is magnetically drawn to the grounded item. This attraction makes it possible to build up a much thicker coat when compared to traditional paint.
Once the coating has been applied, the item is transferred to an industrial oven where it is cured at a temperature of 200 degrees C (390 F) for 15 -30 minutes. Exposing the coating to high heat bonds the particles together into a skin that will protect the item for years to come.

How do I get my furniture powder coated?
If you have a piece of furniture that you would like to powder coat, the first thing you should do is get a hold of our customer service representative at the Powder Coaters and set up an appointment. When your time comes, bring in your furniture and we’ll inspect it to see if it is suitable for powder coating. Once we have determined if it qualifies, we will help you choose an appropriate color, and then we will proceed with applying the coat and curing the item. After the process is complete we will contact you and let you know that you can come in and pick up your furniture.
