The powder is sprayed out of the applicator gun by air pressure and drawn to the grounded item by magnetic force. This attraction allows for a much thicker coating to build up when compared to solvent-based paint.
After the coating has been applied, the item is taken to an industrial oven where it is cured at roughly 200 degrees Celsius (390 F). Curing forces the particles within the powder to bond together into a protective skin. If applied correctly, this skin will protect the object receiving the coat for many years to come.
