What are the benefits of powder coating marine parts?
A powder coat made from a polymer resin, in contrast to traditional paint, is applied electrostatically. This means that the particles are magnetically attracted to the item being coated. Therefore, a much thicker coating can be applied without the danger of the coat running. After the powder coat is administered, the item is taken to an industrial oven where it is baked at the appropriate temperature for 15-30 minutes. This curing process forces the particles within the coat to bond together and form a protective skin around your marine component.
A properly applied and cured powder coat will allow your marine components to operate in the water free from the dangers of corrosion associated with long term exposure to salt water and other environmental factors.
What marine parts can be powder coated?
Because Powder Coating is applied electrostatically, metal components are ideal candidates for this particular type of coating.
How do I get my marine components powder coated?
If you have marine parts that you’d like to powder coat, contact the friendly customer service department at The Powder Coaters in Nanaimo BC via our request a quote form or phone, and we’ll let you know what you need to do. Once we’ve set you up with an appointment, you can bring your part in and we’ll do the rest.
We are dedicated to the quality of our work, and we ensure that every part we powder coat is thoroughly cleansed and prepped before any coating is applied. Each part is inserted into a chemical bath to remove any excess particles including grease which may have built up during use. Once the part has been cleansed and dried, it is connected to grounding wire. Next, our technicians insert the selected polymer resin into the powder coating gun and apply the coating. After the item has been fully coated, it is taken to our industrial oven and cured for 15-30 minutes. It is then removed from the oven and left to cool. We fully inspect each component for quality issues before we contact you for pick up.
